Today is the 3rd anniversary of buying my 2001 996 C4 Cabrio. Purchased on May 19th, 2017. Took it out for a nice drive along the coast then back through the country, stopping at a school to fly FPV quads with my son. Did about 75 miles.
In all, it’s been a good car. It’s never broken down, or not started aside from at the end of last winter after 4 months when the battery was dead from being in a storage area instead of plugged into a tender in my garage. I’ve done a bunch of stuff to it, but it’s all been maintenance things and cosmetics. Mileage as of today is 115,278 miles. That means I’ve put about 13k on it.
Any questions on 996 ownership? Ask me anything.

Get some snow tires and utilize the ‘4' in 4S !!!!! It’s good for the engine and for the soul.

Is it daily-able? I’ve thought about a 996 and some sort of truck or SUV, but the Porsche would be the normal car for my 50-mile-a-day commute. Real world MPG?

Provided you don’t need more space, yes, this is absolutely a daily driver vehicle. It’s comfy, handles well, and has a big trunk and a somewhat useful back seat. If it wasn’t a cab, I’d drive it a lot more but I Park in a pretty shady area of Boston where I know multiple people have been broken into. When my son gets older and needs a car I’ll probably pass on my GTI and replace my 996 with a coupe or Targa and that will be my daily.
I average 18-21mpg depending on how I drive.

I have 2 other cars and an SUV all with snow tires. Seems ridiculous to drive this in the winter with the other choices I have.

I guess it depends on what the other two cars are. I have an SUV as well, but I drive my 986 Boxster w/winter tires year round. I don’t necessarily drive it in the snow if I don’t have to , but with heated seats there’s no downside..... it’s still so much fun to drive with the top up every other day regardless of the temps.

Forget my post. It looks like one of your other cars is a GTI...

GTI, Volt and Sequoia . There is literally no reason to spend the money on snows and drive the 911 in the winter. I take it off my insurance and it sits 6ft in the air on my lift.
